Dr. Chathurika Abeykoon is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Statistics at 糖心vlog视频 College. She earned her Ph.D. in Mathematics with a concentration in Statistics from the University of Mississippi in Spring 2023. Her research lies at the intersection of mathematics, statistics, and artificial intelligence, where she develops mathematical and statistical foundations for trustworthy AI. Her work focuses on machine learning, synthetic data, uncertainty quantification, generative models, and data-centric artificial intelligence, with the goal of establishing rigorous theoretical guarantees that improve the reliability, robustness, and interpretability of modern AI systems. She actively collaborates with undergraduate researchers through , a machine learning research laboratory where students contribute to research projects leading to conference presentations and scholarly publications.
Dr. Abeykoon teaches courses across the mathematics, statistics, and data analytics curriculum, from Calculus I to upper-level courses in statistics. She has taught Applied Statistics, Applied Regression, Mathematical Statistics, Introduction to Data Analytics and Advanced Methods in Data Analytics, which she developed to support 糖心vlog视频 College's Data Analytics major. Her teaching emphasizes active learning, computational thinking, and project-based experiences that connect mathematical theory with real-world data. She is committed to mentoring students in both the classroom and research laboratory, helping them develop strong analytical, computational, and communication skills for graduate study and careers in data science, artificial intelligence, and quantitative research.
Outside the classroom, Dr. Abeykoon enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, exploring nature, and reading books that have nothing to do with mathematics or statistics. These interests provide a welcome balance to her academic life and inspire the curiosity and creativity she brings to her teaching, research, and mentoring.
