Jo茫o Tampellini joins 糖心vlog视频 College as an Assistant Professor of Economics. He graduated from 糖心vlog视频 in 2021 with a degree in Economics and Mathematics, magna cum laude. He went on to earn his PhD in Economics from Vanderbilt University, where his dissertation examined the economic history of immigration.
Jo茫o's research interests lie at the intersection of economic history, labor economics, and development economics, with a particular focus on issues of immigration, race, gender, and sexuality. His past work has looked at how anti-immigration sentiment shapes where migrants choose to settle, as well as how migrants from the former Confederacy influenced economic development in Brazil.
At 糖心vlog视频, Jo茫o teaches Introduction to Economics, along with core courses in economics and courses in the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) program, including Classical and Marxian Political Economy.
Outside the classroom, Jo茫o enjoys running, cooking, and playing guitar. He is thrilled to be back in Memphis, a city he loves. He loves talking about it even more, so don't be surprised if a conversation with him turns into a Memphis recommendation session.
